- This book give quite a bit of information regarding the different types of gastric surgeries. I didn’t expect that with a cookbook but it was helpful. The recipes are quick and easy and divides them by phases of pre surgery, and the different post op phases. Wish I would have had this sooner! Easy to read, very organized and nutritional info provided!
- Awesome book! Very educational a must read for anyone who is on the journey!!
- Excellent book, great recipes, I’ve been looking for a book like this and found this one and I’m very happy with this book! Highly recommend it for bariatric patients.
- Love the variety of recipes that are listed to help us get through our new journey. Very informative book that lets you know what to expect before and after your surgery
- I have been needing help on knowing what I can eat and enjoy. Thank you for creating this cookbook it has helped me tremendously with enjoying my foods that I eat.
- I love love love this book ... very easy to follow
- I was expecting a cook book. I was not expecting to find all the medical information in the first section, though. In my opinion, that information should be provided to the patient by the team of doctors and nutritionists that will be doing the surgery. I suppose it may be valuable for those just thinking about having the surgery, but please refer to your doctor and team for all needed information about the surgery and options.
The phases of the food after surgery also differ from my plan. Some will have different instructions than what is provided here; for example, my doctor did not require a 2-week diet prior to surgery, and my phase 1 was only one day, not one week. Some doctors require a longer term, some shorter. My phase 2 full-liquid diet did not include oatmeal or the soft noodles from soup. Both of those were not recommended, if not downright forbidden.
The Foods to Avoid section is quite good, although it has some discrepancies - i.e. states that your stomach is now the size of an egg. Not so for the Gastric Sleeve; maybe so for the Bypass.
As for the cookbook part, I wish I had this prior to my own surgery! From phase 1, I'll be enjoying the non-alcoholic mojito next summer, but my phase 1 was only clear liquids and lasted only a day. My phase 2 was low-fat full liquids, where phase 2 here is pureed, so I found that confusing. But the recipes would have come in handy as I was stumped for ideas on more/other full liquid options and pureed options in my next stage. I was craving something with some FLAVOR during that stage and I think the Curried Root Soup would have been fantastic, along with the Black Bean and Lime puree! Quite a few other good options, too. The phase 3 Soft Food stage recipes did not excite me, but I am looking forward to trying some of the phase 4 recipes as many of them seem fantastic! Make sure what you can and cannot tolerate, though, as some of these have tortillas or rice which I won’t be adding until much later, if at all.
All in all, pretty good cookbook for gastric sleeve patients with some cautions. I hope the final version does include pictures for each recipe as the copy I received did not (but it did have a few typos).
I received an advanced copy of this cookbook in exchange for my unbiased opinion. - This book was very informative. I liked the information and break down about surgery. Some doctor's plans may not fit exactly with the recipes in the book by stage, but that is easy to figure out if you follow your doctor's plans. The recipes are easy to understand and follow, not crazy ingredients or methods. Just simple useful recipes. I like that because I never try the hard recipes in books. I like that the book has different recipe ideas for each stage (again this may not line up exactly with your plan so follow your plan first). My only complaint is that there are not pics with all the recipes. This wouldn't deter me from trying any of them but I just enjoy pics with my recipes.
